Practice + Approach

Old School Architects are a Lincolnshire based creative Chartered Architects Practice. The founders Damien and Selina Hodgson have a common passion for seeing the potential in existing buildings.

The opportunity to convert a derelict boys school in Alford, Lincolnshire, to create a studio and family home was too great and Old School Architects was founded. As a small practice our value lies in the close working relationship and collaboration with you the building owner. Each project is nurtured by us from beginning to end.

Our response to your project produces buildings that are rooted in their environment with a focus on reuse and adaption of existing structures, giving buildings new energy efficient life. Our studio is our testing ground and model making is an integral part of our design process allowing us to research, question and explore to demonstrate the overall vision.

Old School by name old school by nature

Hand sketches in early meetings help collaboratively develop your brief and form initial concepts. Physical models are made to test spatial arrangements, volumes and the play of light. Developed designs are drawn on computer with the potential for visuals to be produced giving a photo realistic impression of the completed project.

Who are Old School...

Damien Hodgson

Damien is a registered architect and founder of Old School Architects. Having studied in London and Austria he has worked as a project architect in Hamburg, London and Sydney.

Damien balances his role in the practice with lecturing / guest critic roles at universities allowing engagement with the next generation of architects and designers. He is currently engaged at Loughborough University. Damien honed his ability to create concepts, work to deadlines and budget in his early years as an architect as part of a German make-over show on prime-time TV.

Selina Hodgson

Selina is co-founder of Old School Architects. Originally from Sydney where she studied architecture, roles in Sydney and London studios played to her strength in team working and delivering projects on site.

Scarlett Tutty

Joining the practice in 2023, Scarlett completed her apprenticeship course at Nottingham Trent University and has recently received her accreditation as a registered architect. She combines her conservation design sensibility with excellent collaborative skills and leads a number of Old School Architects projects.
